Biography —
Dr. Govindan is a board-certified, practicing pulmonary and critical care physician at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. He is also the Chief Innovations and AI Officer at VISN 15 in the Veterans Health Administration, an Associate Professor, and a Vice Chair of Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas SOM. He has a Master’s in Health and Healthcare Research (MSc) through the University of Michigan Rackham School of Graduate Studies (Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Curriculum). Dr. Govindan has substantial experience in the VA at deploying AI technologies on an enterprise scale, in both clinical and operational arenas. He is well versed in multiple research methods, including large database / machine learning analyses and implementation methodologies. This includes a history of being a funded investigator on multiple federal proposals. Dr. Govindan is also the Senior Advisor for AI Strategy and Research for the VHA National Office of Research and Development; in this role, he assists in coordinating AI and innovation across the VA.
